Proud Mom and Advocate Finds Creative Way to Spread Awareness
What would you do if you learned your unborn baby will be disabled? This is a subject that not many want to talk about. However, Atlanta area writer, producer and director Yvonne Pierre has turned the much avoided topic into a “Blue Carpet” event, headlined by an entertaining and uplifting stage production.
On April 7, 2012, Atlanta’s famous 14th Street Playhouse plays host as Y Pierre Productions presents THEN YOU STAND: a story about a newlywed couple excitedly expecting their first child. When their unborn child is diagnosed with a disability, the news leads them to question their relationships and beliefs. A turn of events forces them to reclaim their relationship, accept their baby and ultimately rekindle their faith. THEN YOU STAND is sure leave audiences with a profound message that no matter what the circumstance, there’s a bigger picture.
“I believe that in order to empower children, we must first empower parents,” says Ms. Pierre. “Whether the audience has a child with special needs or not, people will walk away looking at any obstacles that they face differently, feel inspired and start the discussion about Down syndrome.”
